Transform Your Mess Into Your Message.

I just returned from the International Plant-based Nutrition Conference where I had the opportunity to meet Dr. T. Colin Campbell, Dr. Garth Davis, Dr. Joel Kahn, Rich Roll, and Milan Ross. In particular, Milan's story captivated me. Three years ago, he weighed more than 500 lbs and suffered from depression and lethargy. After attending an Immersion event by Whole Foods and switching to a whole foods, plant-based diet, he's successfully lost more than 250 lbs. He wrote the book "The Change" in collaboration with Dr. Scott Stoll, and recently released his newest book, "The Change Cookbook."

Milan says, "I'm not special. I'm not an all-star athlete. I just eat plants." But his story has power and resonates with so many people. He's appeared on The Doctors TV show, The Ellen Show, and will soon appear on Super Soul Sunday with Oprah. When I talked with him, it was clear that it was never about the fame. He never intended his life to transform in the way that it has, and his intention is to give back to as many people as he can.

This afternoon as I was riding on the train back home, a thought came flying into my head. I grabbed onto it and quickly wrote it down in my notebook because it landed with such intentionality:

Have the courage to transform your MESS into your MESSAGE.

That's what Milan did. That's what I did. And that's what you can do as well. The messes we've walked through don't have to be in vain. We can use our own experiences to free others and provide them with the tools we've come to value.
